***Ho ho*** hold on, it's time for Toronto Community Bicycle Coalition's 7th annual **Cycling Good Cheer** bicycle parade! Back in 2020 when the Santa Claus parade was cancelled, a merry band of volunteers from [Toronto Community Bikeways Coalition ](https://www.communitybikewaysto.ca/)decided we needed to cheer up the kids along Yonge Street! From the North Pole aka North York to the Lake, it was a joy! It really was such a delight (albeit cold that December) to see kids' faces light up and adults happy to see grown adults dressed up as Santa, elves, and of course reindeer! 7 years later, it is our favourite event of the year! This year families are coming from all parts of the city - The Grinch from Scarborough, elves from North York, and Ruby the Red-Nosed Reindeer is trotting the west end families from High Park, as it's a great grazing spot for reindeer! We will meet at **Raccoon Park, 86 Soudan Ave** (Yonge/Eglinton)**,** to begin our **bicycle parade with Santa on his cargobike** with bells ringing and a festive playlist south on Yonge for 10km all the way to **Harbourfront Centre.** **The parade is free, festive, fun, and for families.** Here's TCBC's [event page](https://www.communitybikewaysto.ca/events/7th-annual-cycling-good-cheer) with the feeder rides listed below: North York - Ride with **Elves from the North Pole** 12:15 Meet at Finch TTC Station subway platform South end at the head of the train Scarborough - **Ride with The Grinch** 11:30 Meet at the NW corner of Danforth & Victoria Park Ave 11:45 Roll out the cheer 1:30 Frank Stollery Parkette, 1 Davenport for a brief stop to meet up with Parade from the North High Park - Ride with **Ruby the Red Nosed Reindeer** 11 Meet at High Park Gates North & Bloor St W 11:15 Roll out the tunes along Bloor and then north on Yonge! Make sure your bicycle is parade ready with Air, Brakes, & Chain in good working order. Bring snacks & water to keep you going. Ensure you're dressed for the weather with a sturdy set of antlers. The more the merrier!

Port Lands: Moonlight shining toward us (6.1 km)

From Hike to Eat

Biidaasige Park has become the top urban park in Canada in barely more than a year. The play area is impressive with ziplines and water works. Biking and walking paths wind through tranquil, restored wetlands and scattered artworks. Design thinking is evident in the placement of amenities and trail layout. If you haven't visited it already, go during the day. This hike happens at night, when you can see the park in a different light (or lack thereof). The park is a key development in the Port Lands area, which will transform into Toronto's newest neighbourhood in the next decade. This hike will start at the eastern end, follow the coastline to Cherry Beach and swing up to the park. Most of the area is still industrial. The only good place to eat is at the end, a local favourite for barbecue. **Highlights** 1. Leslie Lookout Park (depart 6:30 pm) 2. Hearn Generating Station 3. Waterfront Trail 4. Cherry Beach Life Guard Station (depart 7:13 pm) 5. Bridges of Port Lands 6. Atlas Crane 7. Lassonde Art Trail 8. Views of Toronto skyline 9. Ziplines at Biidaasige playground 10. Giant snow owl, beavers, raccoons, and other critters 11. Cherry Street Bar-B-Que (arrive 8pm) **Neighbourhoods** Port Lands > Lower Don Lands **Map** [https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1EJACCyOoX-EdS2UE7Kpnic7P6rtmvac&usp=sharing](https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1EJACCyOoX-EdS2UE7Kpnic7P6rtmvac&usp=sharing) The trail from the start to Cherry Beach has no lighting but is wide and flat. You will be walking in the dark, perhaps with moonlight or city lights illuminating some of the way. Headlamps or torches can be helpful. Recommended to bike, walk, or take a TTC bus to the start point because it's troublesome to return there in the dark. **How it works** Hike starts punctually. Late or can't do the whole route? Meet us at scheduled checkpoints. See our [home page](https://www.meetup.com/hike-to-eat/) for more info.
