Inaugural Melbourne E&U Data Connect
Thu, Oct 15, 6:30 AMWelcome to the first Energy & Utilities Data Connect Melbourne meetup! This group is all about bringing energy & utilities professionals together to share real-world data + AI wins, lessons learned, and what’s actually working across the industry. The idea is simple: a regular, in-person evening where people working on real energy and utilities data problems can share what they are building, what worked, and what did not. Expect practical talks grounded in actual use cases (e.g., grid and asset data, forecasting, smart meter and time-series data, field operations, AI on operational data), followed by time to talk to people who understand the problems you are working on. For this first one we are keeping it simple - a short intro to what the group is about, one or two talks, and plenty of time to meet each other. Speakers are being confirmed and we will update this page as the agenda firms up. Who should come: * Data engineers, analysts, scientists and architects in energy, utilities and water * Data and platform leaders shaping strategy in the sector * Anyone curious about how the industry is actually using data and AI (all experience levels welcome) Huge thank you to Thoughtworks for hosting us at their Melbourne office! Hope to see you there!

Heide MoMA and Sculpture Gardens - SUNDAY WALK
Sat, Oct 10, 10:15 PM**Heide Museum of Modern Art & Gardens** Our Sunday Walk this week takes us back to the beautiful Heide Sculpture Gardens and Park on the banks of the Yarra River. An integral part of Heide is its Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the grounds featuring outdoor sculptures. With a long history as an artist's retreat and landscape gardens, Heide is a special place for a Sunday Walk. **Start**: Meet at Heide main entrance, off Templestowe Road, Bulleen. We'll meet at the large sculpture display outside the Gallery Shop at the entrance to MoMA. (see main picture here). Note the slightly later Start Time: **9.15 AM** **Parking:** Turn off Templestowe Rd and head for the Lower Carpark (follow signs). If this carpark is full, drive past and follow the road to Banksia Park where there's plenty of extra space, then walk back to the Kitchen. **The Walk**: We'll walk the gardens and parkland of the adjacent Banksia Park before heading back to the Kitchen Cafe for brunch. It's a slightly shorter walk than our usual (about 4 Km) but includes some hilly sections. **Toilets**: Throughout the Park and at the Kitchen area. **Coffee**: At the Heide Kitchen Cafe, where we can also enjoy brunch if you wish.

Welcome to the next 2026 AWS Melbourne Well-Architected User Group Meetup!
Wed, Oct 28, 6:30 AMHi Architects, Welcome to our next AWS Melbourne Well-Architected User Group Meetup for 2026, including more exceptional speakers and topics! :-D At each meetup we covered off various pillars in detail, best-practices and insights from industry leaders that specialise in the Well-Architected Framework. And giving away drones, of course. Lots of drones. **Please also note that AWS Security now requests a company name and company email where it is available. If you are a student, please list your institution and your student email address at that institution 👍** We'll be announcing more speakers on [https://well-architected.me](https://well-architected.me/) and previewing presentations during the coming weeks - our speakers and details this month include: * **Mystery Speaker** **Generative AI Cost Optimisation (Part 2)** Cost Optimisation is essential but with all the anecdotal stories of massive token budget blowouts, staying on top of Generative AI best-practices is essential to avoiding these scenarios. This month's menu will include: * Pizzas * Beer: Nastro Azzurro * Wine: Big and red 🤤 NB: Please check in up the stairs from the ground floor to the Mezzanine Level. So come join us at 5:30 for a 6pm **SHARP** start, followed by beer, wine, pizza and friendly networking after our talks :-) Tired of Linkedin’s "thought leadership”, spam and advertising? Join https://well-architected.me/ , the AWS community built for architects, developers and cloud professionals. * Connect with experienced AWS practitioners * Preview upcoming AWS Meetups and relive past content * Create and review beautiful AWS case studies in minutes * Prepare for AWS certifications with curated quizzes * Show your manager and reports you’re well-architected (Please note that by registering to attend you agree to your details being shared as and where required with Amazon Web Services and AWS Well-Architected User Group partners) in

GenAI Maturity: From Demo to Reliable Production and Agentic Engineering
Tue, Oct 20, 7:00 AMThe MLAI Meetup is a community for AI researchers and professionals which hosts monthly talks on exciting research. Our format is: * 6:00 - 6:20: Socializing * 6:20 - 6:40: Announcements and AI news * 6:40 - 7:40: Talk(s) and Q&A * 7:40 - 8:00 Networking * 8:00: Head to the nearest pub for dinner **Gilbert Pochet: "GenAI Maturity: From Demo to Reliable Production and Agentic Engineering"** **Talk Description:** GenAI has made it easy to build impressive prototypes. The harder challenge is turning them into reliable production systems. Many projects stall because teams cannot prove business impact or lack the engineering practices needed to evaluate, operate and maintain them effectively. This talk explores that gap, from measurable outcomes and evaluation to production engineering discipline. It then looks at agentic engineering as the next step: using coding agents to accelerate delivery while keeping clear plans, objective verification and human accountability. The goal is to move from “this looks useful” to “this creates measurable value in production” and then deliver that value faster without losing engineering quality. I would structure the presentation around just four sections: * **1\. The prototype trap**: impressive demos are easy, production value is not. * **2\. Prove the impact**: business metrics, baseline, measurable outcome, evaluation. * **3\. Build for production**: reliability, observability, acceptance criteria, deterministic checks, maintainability. * **4\. Scale the engineering team**: agentic engineering, development plans, verification, architecture preservation, faster delivery with quality. **Speaker bio:** After studying Computer Science, I pursued a Master’s degree focused on Machine Learning and AI because early in my career I saw how inefficient and manual many organizational processes still were, and became convinced by AI’s potential to transform industries and solve problems beyond the limits of traditional software. Over the last 12 years, working across North and South America, Germany, and Australia in enterprises, startups, and later as a CTO, I’ve focused on turning complex AI systems into real products that drive growth and impact. Throughout this journey, I’ve contributed to organizations including SEEK, oOh!media, and Mr Yum. Over time, I realised the biggest challenge in AI is not only building the technology, but helping organizations align execution, trust, and decision-making. That pushed me to combine AI engineering with strategic execution, stakeholder management, negotiation, and leadership to move AI initiatives from ideas into scalable production systems.
