These monthly "**Get-Togethers**" are centered around a theme or topic that attendees can discuss casually with each other. They usually occur every third Saturday at 9:00-11:00 a.m. ***in person***—outside in one of L.A.'s fine parks. The goal of these meetings is community-building and growth through an open-minded exchange of ideas. The topic of the upcoming meetings is discussed and announced on our Discord server and newsletter. Please reach out to me if you have any questions. See you then! **—Justin K. Cantonese Families Meetup #6

Cantonese Families Meetup #6

Sun, Oct 18, 4:30 PM
From LA Cantonese Families

Hi all! Come hang out in the park again. We'll be doing circle time again, earlier this time. Trying out a morning meetup on the westside! (subject to change if I get enough protest about this). Cantonese circle time will be 15-20 minutes, with some short songs, story time, and perhaps a short activity. These will all be designed to be engaging for a variety of ages (mainly thinking \~1-6yo). Be prepared to circle up with your kids and help facilitate hopefully a fun and enriching short program! The rest of the time will be free time for play, chat, and community building. Cantonese is always encouraged, but there's no pressure. Picnic blanket recommended but no fret if you show up without one. **1 RSVP per family** Whether or not you're bringing your fam, please RSVP for just yourself to leave space for others to RSVP (we're capped by Meetup to 10 RSVP guests). **Intentions:** * Create a fun, friendly, and supportive community * Improve each other's Cantonese by providing more opportunities to speak and learn - both for parents and kids * Bond with other Cantonese-speaking parents (or non-Canto parents trying to learn) and share the joys and challenges of trying to raise Cantonese-speaking humans * Normalize Cantonese for our kids by creating a place where other kids also speak Cantonese * Promote Cantonese language and culture, and both surface and serve the Canto-speaking community scattered throughout LA * Share tips and Canto resources **If you can't make this date/time, but are interested in the group, please message me. I'd love to hear from you.**

Pitch a Friend + Mahjong Night at the Iconic Clifton’s: Guys, Don’t Miss This!

Pitch a Friend + Mahjong Night at the Iconic Clifton’s: Guys, Don’t Miss This!

Sat, Oct 10, 3:00 AM
From DTLASIA

RSVP required. Get your tickets here: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/pitch-a-friend-mahjong Ladies get in for $1 with RSVP. Over 100 people are expected at one of Downtown LA’s most iconic spots. You’ll want to be there. Picture a full room inside Clifton’s, the legendary DTLA landmark on Broadway. Friends are on the mic pitching their single friends, the mahjong tiles are clicking, and new people are meeting all around you. This is the night people will be talking about. Don’t hear about it later. Be there. Pitch a Friend is simple. Your friends know you best, so they do the talking. They take a few minutes to share what makes you great and why someone should get to know you. Then everyone moves to the mahjong tables, where meeting people feels natural. Why guys shouldn’t miss this • 100+ people in one room. It’s one of the best chances to meet new people in DTLA, and right now we need more men to balance the room. • An iconic setting. Clifton’s is one of LA’s best-known landmarks, not your usual bar or mixer. • You don’t have to sell yourself. Your friend pitches you. You just show up. • There’s something to do. Mahjong gives you an easy reason to talk, laugh and stay at the table. No awkward standing around. • No experience needed. New players are welcome, and someone at your table will help you learn. • Come solo or bring your crew. Bring the friend who’ll pitch you, or come and we’ll make the introductions. How it works 1. Come with a friend to pitch you, or come to pitch someone else. 1. Pitches run 2–3 minutes. Keep them short, kind and funny. 1. After the pitches, everyone moves to the mahjong tables to meet each other. Details • Location: Clifton’s, Broadway, Downtown LA • Date: [Date] | Doors [time], pitches start [time] sharp • Tickets: RSVP required at zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/pitch-a-friend-mahjong • Ladies: $1 with RSVP | Guys: [price] • Expected turnout: 100+ • Open to singles of all ages 21+ [adjust as needed] Presented by DTLASIA, a project of the DTLA AAPI Alliance. Community = Culture = Power. Space is limited. Guys, get your ticket before it’s gone, and tag the friend who’s always saying “I know someone for you.”
