National Ride to Work Day - ride to morning tea at Parliament House

Tue, Oct 13, 8:50 PM
From Bike Leichhardt
4.8

**Wednesday 14th of October is National Ride to Work Day.** Meet at the fountain in Lackey St., Summer Hill at 7.50 am for a 7.55 am start. We'll take the Greenway to Lilyfield Rd, then through Rozelle Parklands to meet the Balmain folks at 8.20am at the Victoria Road underpass near the ANZAC bridge. The route for Ride to Work Day is; *(8:00am - Balmain people are starting at Loyalty Square, Balmain)* *(8.15am - White Bay Power Station gate (Robert St, Rozelle)* **8.20am - Rozelle Parklands at the Victoria Road underpass** **8.40am - Union Square, Pyrmont** **9.00am - Hyde Park (College St & Oxford St)** **9.10am - Parliament House & photo opp. (Hospital Road side)** **9.30am - Morning tea in Parliament House** [https://ridewithgps.com/routes/57237134](https://ridewithgps.com/routes/57237134) If you prefer, meet at any of the stops in the list above or make your own way to the Domain behind parliament house. This is a chance to get the attention of NSW parliamentarians in the run up to the state election in March 2027. At the Hospital Rd (Domain) side of Parliament House, after a photo session, we will welcomed inside to speak with the Parliamentary Friends of Active Transport and the member for Balmain Kobi Shetty. Morning tea is included! It's an excellent opportunity to communicate directly to decision makers and help convince them of the need for more funding and favourable outcomes for travelling by bike. The Balmain Bike Bus, organised by the Sustainable Transport Group of Climate Change Balmain Rozelle, invite us to join them for this special ride. We will also be joined at Macquarie St by Bicycle NSW. This is a great way to get our voices heard to champion cycling, walking and other forms of sustainable transport. If you wear cleats, suggest you bring a change of shoes for use in Parliament House. Afterwards, if you can, join us at a nearby cafe for a post event cuppa and discussion, otherwise make your own way home. Bike Leichhardt ride leader TIM call 0408 691 541

**Bicycle NSW Spring Cycle - Sunday October 11, 2026** Come along in Bike Leichhardt jerseys (or not) to ride 50 klms over the Harbour bridge along a dedicated route to Sydney Olympic Park. There is also a 10 klm route too. For full details - go to their website to find out more and register for the ride. Do it soon to get the early bird discount. https://www.springcycle.com.au/home Note there is a cost payable to Spring Cycle to attend. Its a great opportunity to enjoy a route open only once per year and to show the public as well as local, state and federal govts that cycling is a mass participation activity (and thus deserving a better share of roads and transport funding). Those who want to can meet at the start at St Leonards Park to ride as a group. Easiest way to get there is get the Metro to Victoria Cross and exit the station at the northern end then walk up the hill to St Leonards park near North Sydney Oval. We can enjoy coffee and lunch after the ride at Sydney Olympic Park. Its a great way to promote our club and to encourage more of the public to enjoy cycling. Bring family and friends too. Go to the website now, https://www.springcycle.com.au/home to register and pay for your participation.

Community of Practice 🗣️ - Human Hearted Sydney 🌻

Community of Practice 🗣️ - Human Hearted Sydney 🌻

Sun, Oct 11, 12:00 AM
From Human Hearted Sydney
4.7

Join our monthly Community of Practice (COP) where we discuss the ideas of Human Heartedness: a secular approach to life that promotes empathy and social connection based on cultivating our human social potential. Each meeting we discuss these concepts and how they can help us in practical ways to live better, happier, and more fulfilling lives. The meeting is followed by an optional lunch together nearby. This is a great opportunity to meet like-minded people and find your local community! ⏰ **When:** Sunday October 11th at 11:00am 📍 **Where:** Darling Square Library, Level 1 - Ideas Space 2 (see directions) 🎟️ **Cost:** Free 🧑‍🦱 **Who should come:** anyone looking to meet new people and build connections with like-minded Sydneysiders. We’re queer-friendly and welcome people from all ages and backgrounds :) **About Human Heartedness:** The modern world’s focus on competition and materialism makes it easy to feel isolated and overwhelmed. The collapse of traditional sources of meaning like religion and local community intensify this so that we’re often left with a lack of meaning and purpose. We can try to fill the void with money and success—or to numb it with drugs and technology— but nothing seems to work. Human heartedness reminds us that the path to living well doesn’t come from money and power, but from building on the best in our own human hearts. Our human social potential. It points to a better way: to build in-person communities that build on our innate social potential and inherent value as humans. By building good relationships and social connections, we can live a more fruitful and fulfilling life (and help others to do the same). We can move from struggling alone to flourishing together. Following the human hearted way offers a secular, inclusive, forward looking solution to the meaning crisis of our times. [Learn more about Human Heartedness and our other events here!](https://linktr.ee/humanheartedsydney) **About the Community of Practice (COP):** Our human hearted community of practice (COP) offers a friendly welcoming environment in which we support and encourage each other to live more human hearted lives. Our goal is to build a community that supports us all to live more meaningful and fulfilling lives. We welcome you to join us in exploring together how to live better lives. *Human Hearted Sydney is sponsored by Humanists Australia which kindly funds our activities and keeps events like this free.
