Please Note: Due to renovations of our normal hall we have a new place for December and the first 6 months of 2022. This is a smaller hall so numbers are limited. A ceilidh (pronounced kay-lee) is a night of traditional Scottish dancing. Join with the Brunswick Scottish Society and learn how to do fun dances, and have some BYO drinks. Don't worry if you don't know how to dance -- the lovely people will teach you. This is the best $5 night you'll ever have! This is like a big party in a hall with BYO drinks, BYO glass/cup, BYO food and lots of Scottish Dancing. Most of the dances are like square dances with everyone being told or shown what to do. A few of the dances are similar to those done at ballroom places such as the Pride of Erin Waltz, Parma Waltz, Charmain Foxtrot or Evening 3 Step. Don't worry if you don't know any, they teach you. It finishes early, about 11pm, which is good as it's cheap drinks (BYO) you are probably best to use Public Transport. The 96 Tram gets you back to the CBD quite quickly. Some of us pop around the corner after and go to the Lomond Hotel on Nicholson St. The Lomond Hotel normally has a good band and dancing with free entry. Note: The number 96 tram just outside the hotel is one of the trams that is now running all night. It is a family event so you can bring children who might enjoy learning to dance. There can be six or seven other children there or there may be none. FAQ: COST: $5 tickets at the door TIME: 7:45pm for an 8pm start LOCATION: 21 Harding St, Coburg VIC 3058 Note our normal hall is under renovation. Please don't go to Fleming Park Hall, 104 Victoria St., Brunswick East (the building just east of the Brunswick Bowls Club - 96 tram, stop #26. Note: If you end up at the tram terminus you have gone one stop too far. FOOD: Normally we bring food for a shared dinner - such as pasta, a salad, or cupcakes. Due to covid we are currently not having a shared dinner but you can bring snacks for yourself or immediate group at your table. DRINKS: bring your own + bring glasses/cups WEAR: plaid/tartan if you have it. It's not required, it's just way more fun! AFTER: drinks at the Lomond Hotel on Nicholson Note: This is being placed on a number of meetup groups and similar. We feel that having around 50 people dancing is quite good for this hall but previously had months with it going towards double this. Consequently we're now setting maximum RSVP numbers with the maximum being shared between groups. We monitor the total RSVPs over all groups and when we get enough people we cut off each group's maximum so that further RSVPs go onto wait lists.

Startup Pitch & Themed Networking Melbourne | Unlock Your Idea

Join founders, investors and tech talent at this curated **startup networking event in Melbourne.** Meet ambitious builders, exchange ideas and discover new opportunities in a dynamic community environment. **RSVP: [Use this link](https://luma.com/4uabln8q)** **Please note that RSVP is managed via luma to control attendee lists — don’t ignore it to avoid issues with on-site payment.** You've been running the idea past AI. AI has never once told you it wouldn't work. Tonight you get a room that will. Five founders, five minutes each, The Duke of Wellington in Melbourne. Friday. **Three reasons people come back:** * You get a table, not a lap of the room. You pick a topic the room voted on and stay there for the hour, instead of wandering with a drink looking for a gap in somebody else's conversation. * You get a stage short enough to be honest. Five minutes each, no slides read out loud, then the room asks questions. The questions are the good part. * You get the hour after. The stage ends, nobody's performing any more, and the floor stays open. That's the hour people actually remember. **Your ticket is also a login:** Most events end when you walk out. This one hands you a link: your profile, who else is coming before you get there, a group chat for this specific Friday, and a recap afterwards of who you actually met. Then you land in the Melbourne space and stay there. That's where the second conversation happens, the one you meant to have before the room got loud. Free with your ticket, on the web or in Telegram: [ascentvalley.com/community](https://ascentvalley.com/community) **Is this your room?** Yes, if you're building something, anywhere from the first line of code to Series A. Or you run a function at a company that's scaling, write the code, do the hiring, or you're still deciding whether to start. Probably not, if what you're picturing is a room full of investors. How that actually works is further down, and it's better than the picture. Want the stage? [Apply ](https://ascentvalley.com/pitch)at Five founders an evening, and we answer everybody, including the people we don't pick. Applying is free, but you do need a ticket, because we check the order number. Never pitched before? Five minutes is short enough that it's over before the nerves have finished arriving. **What we don't promise, and what we do instead** We don't promise an investor will be in the room on any given Friday. Angels and people who work at funds come, some Fridays several of them, and we won't tell you in advance who's coming, because we don't know. **We don't run a judging panel, hand out a prize, or keep a leaderboard.** Here's what doesn't depend on who walks in that night. Your application to the stage becomes your profile in our startup directory, and a person reads it, not a scoring script. Once you're verified, that profile sits in front of the funds and angels in our network, and they ask for the introduction themselves when your company matches what they're actually looking for. You choose whether you're in the weekly digest and you can leave it any time. We never sell your details, we don't take equity, we don't take a cut of your round, and we don't give investment advice. Which means the room on Friday isn't the whole opportunity. It's the part you can see: [ascentvalley.com/pitch](https://ascentvalley.com/pitch) Why it's worth a Friday * Watching somebody explain their company in five minutes teaches you more about explaining yours than another evening alone with the deck. * You'll hear the question you've been quietly avoiding get asked out loud to somebody else, and you get to watch how they handle it. * That skill travels. It works on a first date, in a performance review, and at the dinner where somebody asks what you do and you've got twenty seconds before their eyes move on. So bring the friend who keeps saying they have an idea. Five minutes on that stage is the shortest distance between having an idea and finding out what a room full of strangers thinks of it.

CIRCUS FIRE Spectacular at Prahran Square

CIRCUS FIRE Spectacular at Prahran Square

Sun, Oct 18, 8:45 AM
From Melbourne Social
4.9

Join me for a night of fire, acrobatics and general chaos at Prahran Square, where ZAP Circus are bringing their CIRCUS FIRE Spectacular to Centre Square as part of Melbourne Fringe. It's an outdoor show, it's free, and it's a very easy way to spend a Sunday evening. Prahran Square describes it as an internationally award-winning show combining fire, acrobatics, dazzling special effects and razor-sharp comedy, running for about 45 minutes. Expect to stand, expect to be a bit close to the action, and expect to leave grinning. We'll meet at the entrance of Reverie Cafe at 7:45pm for a quick hello, then wander over together around 7:55pm to find a good viewing spot before the show starts at 8:15pm. It's a free outdoor event with no reserved seating, so getting there on time matters if we want a decent view. This is a casual social meetup so we can head along together — it isn't run by, affiliated with, or endorsed by Prahran Square, ZAP Circus or Melbourne Fringe. A Meetup RSVP is just a way of saying hello to the group, not a ticket or a guaranteed spot in the crowd. **Who this is for** * Anyone who likes circus, street performance or just a good outdoor spectacle * People after a relaxed Sunday evening out with no cost and no commitment * Solo attendees — very welcome, and easy to slot into the group since we're all just standing around watching a show together **Links** * Meetup start point: https://maps.app.goo.gl/VeGhLnwxUdunKDGo9 * CIRCUS FIRE Spectacular: https://www.prahransquare.com.au/whats-on/upcoming/circus-fire-spectacular/ **Timeline** * 7:45pm – Meet at the entrance of Reverie Cafe, Prahran and say hi * 7:55pm – Move together to a good viewing spot in Centre Square * 8:15pm – Show starts * 9:15pm – Show ends and we wrap up for the night **Tickets / cost** * Prahran Square lists this as a free event with no booking required, so there's nothing to buy or reserve. * It's first-come, first-served for viewing positions, which is why we're meeting a bit before the start. **Transport** * Prahran Square is on Cato Street, Prahran, a short walk from Chapel Street trams and Prahran station. * There's parking at Prahran Square, but it's a busy Sunday evening in Prahran — public transport is usually the easier option. **Bring** * A jacket or something warm — it's outdoors and October evenings in Melbourne can turn * Comfortable shoes, since we'll be standing for the show * Water, and a bit of cash or card if you want a drink or snack beforehand **Expect** * Vibe: fun, loud and a bit spectacular * Group style: casual and low-pressure, easy to join on your own **Important notes** * This is an outdoor event, so it may be affected by weather. Check the Prahran Square page on the day if conditions look rough. * Please follow all instructions from Prahran Square staff and the performers, and keep behind any barriers or marked safety areas. It's a fire show, so those boundaries are there for a reason. * You're joining at your own risk and are responsible for your own safety and wellbeing on the night. * Prahran Square notes that photography and filming will take place at the event * If your plans change, please update your RSVP so numbers stay clear. **Other info** * The show runs about 45 minutes and there's no interval, so if you're running late, message the group and look for us in the crowd.
