Fire Chats & Free Food — Toronto Municipal Elections

Fire Chats & Free Food — Toronto Municipal Elections

Tue, Oct 13, 10:00 PM
From Democracy by the Bonfire

Elections are on the horizon! Are you ready? Come join us on **October 13, 2026** for an informative recap of what the current administration has done and what the candidates propose to do for the future of our city, followed by facilitated discussions to help you figure out where you stand. This event is sponsored by Apathy is Boring and their Table Topics initiative, so if you are between the ages of 18-30, you should come for the **FREE FOOD**! As election day looms closer, Torontonians are faced with difficult questions on affordability, crime, public transit and more. For youth, figuring out which candidate best aligns with their values can be a confusing endeavour, and many remain undecided. Whether you are still deciding or already have strong opinions, we welcome you to join the conversation. **The Agenda** **5:00-5:05 - Introductions** After a land acknowledgement, the facilitator explains the agenda, introduces this week’s topic and establishes the rules of engagement. **5:05-5:20 - Lecture** Facilitator explains what the responsibilities of a municipal government are and what is within their realm of control. They then recap what Olivia Chow has done over the past 3 years and what her competition is proposing to do differently. **5:20-6:00 - Activity #1: Finding common ground** Everybody has a story to tell. Since local politics touches our lives in an immediate fashion, this is your chance to share your grievances through personal experiences. **6:00-6:40 - Activity #2: Diagnosing the Problem** Here we break out into small groups and start to discuss the actual policies that have been implemented and how they may have positively or negatively impacted our quality of life in the city. **6:40-7:20 - Activity #3: Moving Forward** What do you envision the future of the city to be? Here we regroup to talk about potential solutions we want to see being put forward and whether the current proposals will move us closer to our goals. **7:20-7:30 - Concluding Remarks** The facilitator introduces the theme for the next event and asks for donations before wrapping up the event. **7:30 - Socialize** The meetup is officially over, but you can stick around to chat by the fire and make some new friends! **[Join our Discord!](https://discord.gg/PxAsXAGfJj)**
