On our monthly online meetings, you connect from home (or your favorite spot) and watch the fun, talk to other members or guests, get news updates, see some videos from our database, show some of your own videos and photos (or send me a link to your favorite YouTube video and, 'if appropriate' 😉 I'll show it) and **generally have a great time**..... Minimum of 4 Members (not including the Host) or it will be postponed... I've scheduled this as a two hour event that you can join at any time as long as you have RSVPed to 'Attend' before the event starts (let me know if you're joining us late). We also keep going as long as there are interested active members online, which is often the case... For security\* reasons, RSVP to Attend in the usual way and I'll send you full instructions by eMail the night before on how you access from almost anywhere in the world using the app of your choice (see **[http://alturl.com/tfdiz](http://alturl.com/tfdiz)**) that you can download from **[http://Zoom.us](http://zoom.us/)** * if you haven't got the info message by 2 hours before the meeting, do not post a comment here. Send me a direct message or a TEXT and I'll resend it to you. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Please donate towards the group running costs (fees are over $390^ a year) by sending a donation to **Nick@NyDug.org** at **[https://PayPal.com](https://paypal.com/)**.. Thanks to several of you for your past donations... ^ Meetup charges Organizers over $18 per month (it's not free like it is to members) and Zoom $15 per month. * We do it this way, to avoid getting destructive meeting crashers.

Drone Lab & VoicePlay + Open Projector

Drone Lab & VoicePlay + Open Projector

Fri, Oct 16, 11:00 PM
From Ego Free Jam + Audiovisual Improv @ Delight Factory
5.0

A two-part experience - drop-in or out anytime! **VoicePlay**: An exploration of expression and improvisation using breath, voice, and embodied play led by Mela Closs - 7 PM **Drone Lab + Open Projector**: Experiment with what you’ve learned, make sounds, show video art, or just lean back and enjoy - 8 PM **Learn more and register [here](https://www.delightfactorynyc.com/events/drone-lab-oct2026).** ### Voice Play We’ll start with a drop-in version of VoicePlay, a safe space to play with voice as a tool for authentic expression and playful improvisation. Come explore your embodied expression in this joyful hour of somatic and vocal exploration and experimentation. We will play with vocal improvisation, relaxation of the body, deep listening, traditional somatic practices and connection with the inner sounds waiting to be expressed! We begin with stretches, breathing exercises, and vocal warm ups to relax the body and open the flow of expression. We then move to a playful voice exploration, creating a safe and brave space to play with voice and movement as tools for healing and expression as a group, including unpitched sounds. We will explore and be silly with the curiosity of the inner child. The workshop concludes with a group voice and movement improvisation, bringing us directly into Drone Lab where you can play with and implement what you’ve learned. Bring a water bottle and wear clothes for movement and dance. ### Drone Lab + Open Projector An ambient music jam with big-screen visuals in a beautiful space. Play, vocalize, project, or just lean back and enjoy. Bring your gear - synths, laptops, instruments, pedals - and plug in, or play the venue's. Visual artists, VJs, and live coders: bring your laptop and project. Sign-up slots for visuals. Sound makers just drop in. Watch, listen, and let the room shape what emerges. Part performance, part sound meditation, part jam. Bearded Twin provides a foundation of drone and visuals. You come in and add to it. **How to join in:** * **Music:** Open to everyone, anytime during the event. Bring your instrument or use ours. * **Visuals:** First-come, first-served slots (20 minutes each, or more if there’s room). Bring your laptop. **The vibe:** There’s no setlist, no headliner, just a free-flowing mix of collaboration, exploration, and tuning into one another. You can participate or lounge in the cozy space and take it all in. Feel free to move between the main space, bar, or backyard art installation anytime. No intermissions. Shoes off. ### Schedule (drop-in/out anytime) 6:45 PM: Doors open 7:00 - 8:00 PM: VoicePlay with Mela Closs 8:00 - 8:30 PM: Introduction of instruments (arrive early if you want assistance with equipment beyond plugging into 1/4” mixer, HDMI) 8:30 - 10:45 PM: Sound and visual improvisations 10:45 - 11:00 PM: Framing and closing ### Suggested donations VoicePlay: $20 Drone Lab: $20 VoicePlay + Drone Lab $30 Funds directly support artists and venue. Choose your price point, it’s entirely up to you. Consider where you are on the spectrum between struggling to maintain access to basic needs and financial security/wealth. ### Q&A **I’m bringing gear, what do I need to know?** **Amplified instruments or synthesizer**: We have five mixer inputs, three of which are stereo, 1/4”, and power supply. If your gear is more complex than a simple plug into the mixer, please arrive 15 mins before the event. **Video**: We have an HDMI cable hook-up. **Can I bring an instrument?** Yes, or you can use ours. We have a piano, Rhodes, and various hand drums and percussion instruments. **Is everyone free to play what they want?** Yes, Drone Lab is an improvisational night with open participation. The intention is for it to be more meditative than cacophonous, so we reserve the right to do volume control. **What if there are lots of people wanting to plug in at the same time?** If demand is high, we’ll do what we can to make sure everyone gets to play. **Is there a drone sound foundation to build on?** Yes, facilitator [Bearded Twin](https://www.beardedtwin.com/) will provide the base drone for the night. **How much time do I have for my video set?** We’ll have a sign-up sheet, each slot is 15-20 mins, depending on demand. If slots aren’t filled, you can do more than one. **Can I just come and watch / listen?** Absolutely! We have bean bags, cushions, hammocks, and chairs for your lounging pleasure.
